1985 Australian $10 Victoria State Series Sterling Silver Proof Coin

Why we chose it: A significant piece of Australian numismatic history, this 1985 $10 Sterling Silver Proof Coin was released by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the settlement of Victoria (1835–1985).

This coin holds a special place in Australian coin collecting as the first release in the Royal Australian Mint's popular State Series, which celebrated the individual states and territories of Australia.

The reverse, designed by Horst Hahne, features the Victorian Coat of Arms, including the Southern Cross, a kangaroo crest and two female figures representing Peace and Prosperity. The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.

Struck in 92.5% sterling silver with a beautiful proof finish, the coin showcases frosted design details against a highly polished, mirror-like background.

With a limited proof mintage of 55,806 coins, this historic release is a wonderful addition to any Australian decimal coin or commemorative silver collection.
