Why we chose it: A beautiful piece of Australian numismatic history, this 1986 $10 Sterling Silver Proof Coin was released by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the settlement of South Australia (1836–1986).

This coin represents the second release in the Royal Australian Mint's popular State Series, which celebrated the individual states and territories of Australia.

The reverse, designed by Horst Hahne, features the South Australian Coat of Arms, including the iconic piping shrike and Sturt's desert pea floral emblem. The design also incorporates agricultural produce and mining symbols representing the state's heritage and industries.

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.

Struck in 92.5% sterling silver with a beautiful proof finish, the coin showcases frosted design details against a highly polished, mirror-like background.
