Hallmarked Sterling Silver Berry Tea Spoon Set | Exeter 1853

Why we chose it: This is an exceptional example of mid-19th century silverware, beautifully crafted and presented in its original fitted case. We were especially drawn to the intricate repoussé detailing and the full set of matching hallmarks, struck at the Exeter Assay Office in 1853 — a hallmark that is increasingly rare today. The Exeter office, which closed in 1883, produced a comparatively small volume of silverware, making pieces like this particularly sought-after by collectors. Each spoon is engraved with a finely detailed family crest featuring a hand holding a sword and a sprig of ivy — a striking and distinctive motif. The set was originally retailed by Jays, the prestigious diamond merchants of Oxford Street, London, adding further provenance and prestige. A superb collector’s piece that combines craftsmanship, rarity, and historical significance.
