Why we chose it: A genuinely scarce and historically important NSW Police hat and helmet badge, carrying the “E.R.” cipher of King Edward VIII and dating to circa 1936. These badges were only produced for a very brief window — Edward VIII abdicated before his coronation, meaning items bearing his cipher were made for roughly one year only. That short reign makes surviving pieces like this especially sought after by collectors of Australian police, royal and military insignia. Even with its honest service wear, it remains a powerful display piece and a tangible link to one of the most fascinating moments in British and Australian royal history.
