Why we chose it:
An exceptional George III silver berry spoon, crafted by silversmith duo Peter & Anne Bateman. This rare example features a beautifully detailed repoussé “Jack the Green”— a figure from English folklore symbolising the spirit of spring, nature, and rebirth, traditionally celebrated during May Day festivities.
Berry spoons were fashionable serving pieces in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, used to present sugared fruits or berries at the Georgian table. This spoon is a striking example of the form, combining fine craftsmanship with rich historical character.
